From traditional Carnatic and Hindustani music of North and South India to traditional Japanese taiko drumming. Straight blues, funk and rock drumming to collaborations with classical, folk, ethnic and experimental musicians. One of Pete’s main calling cards is his ability to play traditional instruments out of their normal cultural setting and make them sit within the music comfortably. He has performed live at festivals and concert halls all over the world.

Damon and Marcos were talking about Pete Lockett’s signature sticks that are great for drumset and percussion. You can check them out HERE.

For the product reviews, this is the ARTICLE that Damon brings up. The other products that Damon and Marcos mention are the: Wing Key, Cherry Hill Hi-Hat Clutches, Reflexx Practice Pad, Thumb Thang Shaker, & The One Handed Triangle.

The iconic recording is El #100 by Tito Puente from his 100th album.

Music news for this week. Mexico City is the streaming music capital according to Spotify. Warner Music and Sesame Workshop Are Relaunching Sesame Street Records. The songs from the street box set is available on AMAZON. Donald Glover and Rihanna Release the Trailer for Their ‘Secret’ New Movie ‘Guava Nation’ which they are filming in Cuba.

The track leading into the interview is: “Everybody’s Got One” by Pete Lockett and Luis Conte off of their new album ‘Boom’.

The first albums Pete was checking out were bands like: the Sex Pistols, The Cure, Adam and the Ants, & Siouxsie and the Banshees.

Pete started studying with Jon Hammond in Portsmouth England when he was a teenager.

One of the first people Pete was working with as his career was getting bigger was the great blues singer Lowell Fulson.

One person he mentions in students being able to access Indian drumming is “friend of the show” Randy Gloss at CalArts.

Pete mentions Konnakkol, but he also talks about how Nattuvangam (also with the Mrudangam) is different. Pete brings up Steve Tibbetts and Mark Anderson as well as Trilok Gurtu.

Pete has been on the last five James Bond movie soundtracks, and you can hear some of his handiwork by clicking HERE.

The instruments Pete talks about keeping in his stickbag are first ones he invented. The Zinger and the Cog. Both available at Expanding Hands Music. After that, he has the Hexibugs.

Damon refers to Brian Blade’s snare falling. This is not a video of the concert Damon was at, but it was pretty similar to what happened when he saw it live.

If you are in the Camden area of London, you can have your tattoos done by the same artist that did a bunch of work on Pete. His name is Jeff Ortega.

Pete uses Latin Percussion, DW Drums, Sabian Cymbals, Remo Drumheads, Vic Firth Sticks and ATV Electronic Drums.

These are the only windchimes that Damon doesn’t hate. Pete digs them too.

You can follow Pete on his Website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or YouTube.

The song leading out of the interview is called “The Weight of Time” by Pete Lockett and Luis Conte from their album ‘Boom!’

You can check out his new percussion app: DrumJam as well.
