#48 Colin McNutt: Educator & Writer for The Boston Crusaders, Calgary Stampede and More!

Colin McNutt has instructed and arranged for the Star of Indiana Drum and Bugle Corps and the popular stage production Blast! He has also written for and instructed the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps, the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps, Magic of Orlando, and the Madison Scouts. Colin has served on the faculty of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he is an alumnus and received degrees in Classics and Music Education. Most recently, he was the Percussion Caption Supervisor and then Caption Head for the nine-time DCI World Champion Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps. This past year he became the Caption Head for the Boston Crusaders.
He hasn't only instructed, as McNutt started marching drum corps his junior year in high school in 1988 with the Boston Crusaders of Boston, Mass., then aging out with the Santa Clara Vanguard of Santa Clara, California, in 1992.
McNutt has made a career out of his passion for music and percussion, while in between completing his double major of music education and classics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1998. When not instructing drum corps, McNutt conducts clinics for the percussion companies Avedis Zildjian Co., REMO, Inc., and Vic Firth. He also writes music for marching bands in the United States, Canada, Thailand & Japan.

Amazon scraps the plan to compete against Ticketmaster/Live Nation. However, Ticketmaster/Live Nation make a deal so you can buy tickets and see upcoming show dates from YouTube. Spotify and other streaming platforms may be taxed due to come governments (state and city) trying to make up for loss of revenue. Taylor Swift angers some people in the music industry and may get snubbed in the upcoming Grammys. She also went after a blogger for citing her complacency with white supremists. This is the upcoming list of Grammy nominees for 2018. The Grammys will be on Jan 28th in NYC at Madison Square Garden

Colin started taking lessons at the Cape Cod Conservatory. 

Colin performed in the quad line with the Boston Crusaders in 1990 as well as 1991. In 1992, he joined the Santa Clara Vanguard, taught by Scott Johnson. In 1993, Colin decided to teach after he "aged-out", and was the quad tech for the percussion champion Star of Indiana.  

Colin got his degrees from The University of Massachusetts at Amherst, first in the classics and then in Music Education. He refers to studying under Thom Hannum who we interviewed and that can be heard here

The program that Colin is a part of that is the parent company for the Boston Crusaders, is Inspire Arts & Music.  You can find them in the greater Boston area. Colin also mentions YEA (Youth Education in the Arts) which is in the Allentown, PA area. 

Colin refers to Inspire Arts and YEA as non-profit organizations and what a 1099 tax form is. He also mentions how the Blue Devils can raise money through their Bingo events.
